About ouroboros

Ouroboros is a guest-curated program of exhibitions and events based in, but not confined to, Studio 41 on West Graham Street. It will run through the months of November and December 2012, and it will include artists based in Glasgow as well as invited guests from London, Leeds and Birmingham.

Ouroboros was not curated with any pre-established theme as far as the artistic content goes. Rather, its theme can be said to be the very idea of an exhibition program. In other words, the exhibitions and events included grew out of a spontaneous process of suggestions, invitations and proposals, and now as the program begins, it is our aim, through ongoing discussions, reading groups and writings, to examine the connections and running threads thus created, while breaking the common pattern of a series of unrelated weekly openings. Ouroboros will investigate how different exhibitions feed into each other, how different media relate, what role the spatial setting plays, and how theory and practice blend.

This blog is one of the tools employed in this aim. On the one hand it will function as an archive and schedule of the events and discussions taking place within the program, enabling anyone to read up on what has happened in preparation of what will happen. On the other hand it will also host an ongoing, open-ended writing project, where anyone visiting Studio 41 during these months will be able to pick up a flyer with username + password, and be invited to make their own contributions; be it show reviews, reflections on discussion groups, or recommended readings.

We hope you will want to take part!
